Cents of Relief came into existence in June 2003 with the goal of reducing human trafficking and health problems in the red-light areas of India. Anup Patel and Rina Patel co-founded the site using their scholarship money from awards they had received as undergraduates. Law students Diego Madrigal and Victoria Hernandez lent their expertise in preparing the necessary paperwork to become a 501(c)3 federally tax-exempt non-profit charity, while advertising major Shannon Travis assisted in creating ad campaigns for Cents of Relief's programs. Shortly afterwards, NFL players Max Starks and Carlos Perez joined the organization to use their celebrity status for helping HIV/AIDS victims in India. Cents of Relief's national board is comprised of these individuals who continue to steer the charity in a way that will maximize the relief provided to the red-light areas.
Cents of Relief profoundly impacts the red-light areas in a positive way. The funds and supplies raised by Cents of Relief have gone towards giving women in prostitution and their children educational, medical, and nutritional support. More specifically, Cents of Relief sent children of women in prostitution to boarding schools, provided for a part-time doctor at local non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and fed numerous women in prostitution. Yet, we require your help to alleviate the atrocities occurring in the red-light areas. Cents of Relief can utilize your contributions in its effort to reduce human trafficking and health problems in the red-light areas of India.
